It is also known as
Pranavam, the most sacred symbol and first found in the Vedic scriptures of
Hindu philosophy.
OM has been seen as the
first manifestation of the unmanifest Brahman (the single Divine Ground of
Hinduism) .
Indeed, OM is so
sacred that it is prefixed to all Hindu mantras and incantations. It is
undoubtedly the most representative symbol of Hinduism.
Pranavam means:
"there is no world for
you"
"That which leads to
salvation"
"that which leads to
new knowledge"
The symbol OM means an
excellent boat to cross the ocean of worldly existence.
Pranavam or Om does not
represent any particular god, but Parabrahmam not having any form.
