ESSENCE OF MAHABHARAT

ESSENCE OF MAHABHARAT

Maataa pitru sahastraani putradaarshataani cha |
Sansaareshvabhootaa ni yaanti yaasyanti chaapare ||

In this world (this life), a human being is undergoing and will continue to experience (anubhav) the meeting and departing of thousands of mothers and fathers and hundreds of wives-sons.

Harshasthaansahastr aani bhayasthaanshataani cha |
Divase divase moodhmaavishanti ne panditam ||

An ignorant man daily continues to come across thousands of rejoicing moments and hundreds of fearful moments; however to a wise man such things leave no impressions on the mind.

Urdhvabaahurviraumy esha na cha kaschichkshanoti mein |
Dharmaadarthshch kaamashch sa kimarth ne sevyate ||

I raise both my hands and call out again and again and am saying, but no one is listening to what I am saying ! On following Dharma, liberation (moksha) is attained, then too, people are not abiding by it! Why?

Na jaatiu kaamaan bhayaan lobhaad
Dharma tyajejjeevitasyaapi hetoh |
Nityo dharmah sukhadukhe tvanitye
Jeevo nityo heturasya tvanityah ||

Due to desires, fear, greed or to even save one's life, one should not give up their Dharma. Dharma is eternal and happiness and unhappiness are temporary. In the same way, the "embodied soul" is Eternal and it's reason for being bound i.e. due to "raag" (attraction) , is fleeting and unreal.

Imaam bhaaratsaavitreem praatruthaay yah pathet |
Sa bhaarafalam praapya param brahmaadhigacchyati ||

This message - Essence of Mahabharat is famous by the name of "Bharat Saavitree" . He who daily wakes up in the morning and reads it, attains the fruit of studying the entire Mahabharat, and attains the All Pervading Brahman "Paramatma".

From Mahabharat, Swargarohan 5/60-64
