Question: As long as worldly pleasures do not come in front of us, till that time we are firm that we will not get entangled in enjoyment of worldly pleasures. But when we come face to face with such enjoyments, we become weak. What should we do? (cont'd Part 6)

Swamiji: If you rise above the inert, unreal, temporary, destructible objects, then realization of the Supreme Essence (Paramatma tattva) is not difficult. That which is self-evident and ever present, what can be the difficulty in realizing that? The difficulty is that we have developed an attraction for and assumed a relation with the unreal (non-existent) . The realization of that which " IS " is not difficult. The difficulty is in sacrificing or giving up that which is " NOT " . If we cannot give up that which is non-existent in the first place, then what else will we be able to give up? It is astonishing that we cannot even give up that which is known to us to be false " unreal " ! We know it to be unreal, destructible, one that will not stay with us forever, one that comes and goes, then too we are unable to give it up. This is a grave mistake.

How to get rid of the attraction for the unreal ? For this do selfless service (karma yog). In Gita, God has given great importance and has praised it's glories - " Karmayogo vishiyate "  (Gita 5:2). The clarity with which God has addressed the subject of Karma Yog in the Gita, such clear explanations cannot be found in any of the other scriptural texts. The message of Karma Yog is - Give happiness to others and do not desire anything in return. Give happiness to your parents. Give happiness to your family members wife, children, brothers, sisters etc...) Give happiness to your neighbors. Give happiness to all. If you bring this into your life, then the attraction of the unreal will leave you.

In whatever way, others may get happiness, comfort and rest, if such a feeling (expression) prevails within us, then this is a very precious thing. It is not an ordinary thing. If we desire that when pleasurable objects come in front of us, that we remain undisturbed, then let us divert our thoughts, inner feelings towards - How can I make the other happy ? How can I make the other comfortable ? Things will not remain with us always, therefore if some thing is useful to someone else, it will be good to give to them and make them happy. Having this feeling within, we will start to gain enjoyment in work
that is beneficial to all. When we get enjoyment and pleasure from doing that which is beneficial to others, then even when objects of enjoyment come in front of our eyes, they are easy to give up. But if we only think about, how can I be happy? How can I gain respect? How can others glorify me? if such thoughts and expressions remain in us, then, even in the three worlds, one cannot attain salvation, because such an expression is considered animalism, not humanity,

Keeping other's happiness in mind, our desire for happiness and enjoyment of pleasure will vanish.
